My name is Garlanda Shockley and I am a caregiver to my USAF Veteran. He has brain cancer (glioblastoma aka GBM) and has suffered a hemorrhagic stroke when a biopsy was preformed in Sept 2022.
I am a mom to 4 adult children & 3 bonus adult children and a Grammy to 9 grandchildren. I love time spent with my littles, painting, reading, and crafting.
I am not a licensed therapist; I have a BSA in Business Admin with a minor in Healthcare Admin. I am currently only caring for my husband which requires 24/7 care. I am starting this support group as I know how important it is to have a safe and understanding place to come together with others that have an understanding of what we go through as caregivers.
My name is Jessica Bradshaw. My husband served in both the Army and the Air Force. We are caretakers to our 4 children, three of whom have a chronic, progressive genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis. I have also become a caretaker to my husband, David.
Over the last 10-12 years, my husband's health has continued to decline resulting in serious, life threatening symptoms including multiple, unexplained blood clots throughout his legs and lungs. David's body seems to be attacking itself, like autoimmune, and doctors can't seem to get it figured out just yet. I have thrown myself into research and studies to try and figure out exactly the root cause of his declining health...a story in itself!
I have a degree in Special Education/Elementary Education and have been home caring for my children since 2017. While I am not a licensed counselor, I believe in and know the positive affects of a support group, particularly, those who can relate to you. So, when my friend, Garlanda, told me about her ideas to start a caregivers group, I knew that I wanted to help!
